Efficient use of resources
The ‘Efficient use of European resources’ flagship initiative aims at supporting the transition towards an economy using all resources more efficiently, and particularly towards one which dissociates the the economic growth derived by resources and energy use from the relative environmental impacts, whilst reducing GHGs and increasing competitiveness, efficiency and innovation. It will also be important that energy security and proper provision of resources is promoted. Thsi means that the transition towards this type of economy is not linear and represents a renewed challenge at global level in order to achieve an inclusive sustainable growth. The Action plan for the circular economy (COM (2015) 614/2) adopted by teh European Commission on the 2nd of December 2015 establishes a number of actions and practical measures to promote models of industrial symbiosis, financial help towards innovative projects, as well as actions towards certain sectors such as food waste, industrial and mining, and green public procurements (GPPs).
